National Diabetes Day!

This year has been filled with so many emotions!! But for National Diabetes Day, November 14th we all wore our Blue to show support for Colton on this day in hopes to finding a cure!!

I was wrong!! Yikes!! Did I admit that??

This picture looks funny I know BUT This is literally 15 minutes before we found out Colton has Type 1 diabetes😳!! You can see it in his face he’s not well! We were told 2 weeks and we would have seen rapid weightloss of probably 15-20lbs!! When we were first told I cried! All I thought was how his life is now changed forever! Did I do this? He will never be the same! I was SO wrong! We were lucky we caught this so early! The pain & illness he suffered all that winter doesn’t happen anymore. No one “caused” his diabetes! At the time his blood glucose being so high, they say it’s like feeling hung over for a crazy night x10. Now I know why he never wanted to leave his room! Plus we are extremely lucky to be in a time where the medical advances give them more freedom day to day!! His glucose monitor eliminates 90% of his finger pricks. His insulin pump that should be arriving any minute which will automatically deliver insulin and check his glucose levels every 5 minutes!...

You Just Became a T1D Parent

I write this for all you newly diagnosed diabetic families! And yes I said families, even though it’s only one person with the disease. You have now become a family of diabetics! It will get better! I remember hearing that from an amazing nurse the night we showed up at the diabetic unit! Cause I remember thinking it over and over again, when Colton cried so hard that ITS NOT FAIR. Or when then the kids at school looked at him like he had the plague. When the depression hit! I remember it so vividly because I kept saying to myself, “When Debbie?? When’s it gonna hey better??”  If you didn’t guess, that is the nurses name LOL!! And if I’m being honest April 3 literally seems like a lifetime ago!  But it actually wasn’t so I know the exact moment of your life your existing in! ~ the worrying , ok this never goes away but you will become more confident in your skills!
