Signs of Diabetes!!

This is the #1 question I get asked......
Did you see any signs of Colton being type 1 diabetic💙⁉️

HONESTLY....... I had NO CLUE what the signs even were to look for. This disease is the 7th leading cause of death & serious health risks being undiagnosed. It was sheer luck we caught Colton so early we were told 2 weeks we  would have seen a 15-20lb weight loss in him and he would have been hospitalized, more than likely, with DKA (diabetic keto acidosis) which I am so thankful for every single day we didn’t go through that!

Now that I know here are some signs to look for:

• Here is a photo of the back of Coltons bed. Undiagnosed means sugars are not getting into their cells and they are just floating in their blood stream. This caused an unquenchable thirst

• Frequent urinating. I thought because he was drinking so much water

• Feeling VERY hungry even though they aren’t eating all the time. See no sugars in their cells means they are starving and their bodies will start feeding them selves off their muscles & fat. Hence why we were told about seeing rapid weightloss very very soon

• Extreme Fatigue.....no sugars fueling their body for energy

• Blurry vision. High blood sugar is very very bad on your eyes

• Cuts/Bruises that don’t heal. Diabetics have poor circulation making it difficult for nutrients to heal wounds

• Tingling of hands and feet called neuropathy/nerve damage. The higher the blood sugars and the longer they stay high, the greater the chance of the person developing neuropathy

• My personal fav IRRITABILITY..... holy moly when Colton is high loooook out

If you feel you or your child is experiencing any of these please check with your doctor and ask what the results are. We actually had Colton tested for all sorts of illnesses back in January. His blood glucose was high, just under the range for a follow up. If I knew that I would have demanded a glucose test. We are lucky we still caught it early in April.

Normal range is between 4-6mml/L
January Colton was 9.9mmol/L
April he was 18 then 22mmol/L

It happens fast if your ever wondering please check with your doctor💙💙
Colton is so much happier andhealthier now. These disease sucks BIG TIME but it’s better than the alternative!!
